Whites of Wexford is Venue for London Irish Training Camp
A new, state-of-the-art training facility in Wexford in south-east Ireland will be the venue for London Irish’s mid-season training camp next week.
Club captain Bob Casey will lead a party of 24 players on a seven day camp at the new facility at Whites Hotel in Wexford town. Over the past year the hotel has invested in the new facilities which include a cryotheraphy chamber, a 20 metre swimming pool and a gymnasium. Cryotheraphy reduces recovery time from muscle strain and injuries and is especially effective in helping athletes recover quickly after intense physical training sessions. Previously London Irish like the Ireland rugby team has used the facilities at Spala in Poland.
Allan Ryan, the club’s Head of Strength and Conditioning and Tony Stanger, Speed and Skills Coach, will be in charge of the camp.
“Our aim is to get the players into the best possible shape for the challenges of the second half of the season,” said Allan Ryan. “Previously we would have had little choice but to travel to Poland for a camp such as this. The excellent training facilities at Whites include a new cryotheraphy chamber so there is no need to travel to Eastern Europe. In addition, given the club’s long standing connections with Ireland, we’re delighted to go there for the camp as it provides another opportunity to introduce some of our players to the club’s historical roots.”
The Heineken Cup quarter-finalists face a demanding second half of the season with eleven Guinness Premiership fixtures including home matches with Leicester Tigers, London Wasps and Bristol and the European quarter-final against Perpignan on 5th April.
