4. Kenmare Walking Club
Founded in the 1980s, the Club has a permanent membership in excess of 100 regular walkers. Non members are welcome to join the organised walks and festivals. Kenmare is situation in the middle of the most impressive mountain range in Ireland. Walks are graded for different abilities/fitness levels.
5. Kenmare Lace Design Centre
In 1864 the Poor Clare nuns under the leadership of Mother Abbess O'Hagan set upon a practical course to help the needy to help themselves, by establishing an industrial school in the convent building. There, young girls were chiefly employed in producing lace. The tradition of making the beautiful Kenmare Needlepoint lace is still carried out today in the Kenmare Lace and Design Centre. There is an Exhibition of antique lace from the convent as well as demonstrations. Lace and materials can be purchased.
