The Business Energy Achievement Awards recognise and reward the energy achievements of businesses and organisations from all sectors in Ireland.

Launched in 2021, this new awards programme has grown out of the Green Awards, Ireland’s leading sustainability awards programme.

The awards ceremony was held last Wednesday, December 8th, with companies from all over Ireland represented. The Falls hotel & Spa were awarded best Energy Achievement in Tourism, Leisure & Hospitality. They were also shortlisted for the Overall Energy Achievement Award, which on the evening went to Aldi Ireland.

The judges were particularly impressed with the Falls Hotel’s hydro turbine project which saw them construct a hydro turbine on the river that runs alongside them, which generates clean, sustainable hydro power. This turbine now provides approximately 70% of the hotel electricity, reducing their carbon emissions by over 60% in it’s first year.  This and many other sustainable projects undertaken in recent years, helped reduce the hotel’s carbon emissions by 100%, earning them carbon neutral status in early 2021.

Dublin Airport received the Energy Leader Award for their sustainability strategy at the airport.
